BUKS [ see more photos bottom of page]

Although the Buks family came from Babiak and then Pzedecz, many settled in Klodawa, and/or had much interaction with the people/relatives in Klodawa. Rivka Buks Przedecki and her husband Mordcha spent the last years of their lives living with their son Sender Przedecki in Klodawa.

RIVKA BUKS PRZEDECKI: GREAT-GREAT GRANDMOTHER OF JUDY MURATORE, SITE AUTHOR. See family history page for Buks lineage.

Per Chaim Simons research on Przedecz: In March 1998, my eldest daughter Ayelet went on a “Holocaust Study Trip” to Poland. On 30 March she made a brief trip to Przedecz, where she visited the site of the Jewish cemetery. There she saw that the Buks family, who originated from Przedecz had erected a memorial stone in the cemetery. The inscription reads, “We honor the blessed memory of our Jewish ancestors from the town of Przedecz lovingly remembered by the Buks family - 1993.” She lit a candle by this memorial stone. The Polish authorities have planted a forest over the site of the cemetery, presumably to preserve and beautify the area. See photo below:

PRZEDECZ MEMORIAL DEDICATED BY THE BUKS FAMILY-1993. IT IS UNKNOWN WHICH BRANCH OF THE FAMILY DEDICATED THIS PLAQUE.

The BUKS family was traced back to Babiak Poland from the 1700's in the Przedecki/Buks family tree. There were several families in both Przedecz and Klodawa. There were also several extended familes of the the Buks who settled in Malden, MA and whose descendants are still in the U.S., as well as in Israel. The Buks, Przedecki and Hershberg [Judy Muratore's grandmother: Esther Hershberg] have several marriages between family members, who were also related to each stemming back to the Buks family line.

Mordchai and Rivka [Buks] Przedecki five children were:Yochavet-Rachel, Michael, David, Sender, and Aaron. The oldest was the daughter Yochavet-Rachel (named after Rivka’s mother). She married Rivka’s cousin Lieser Buks, had eight children and died tragically in a fire. Only 2 of her eight children survived the Holocaust: Michael Aba, and Ruven.PRZEDECKI][See family history page for photos]

EMAIL FROM SHLOMO MANOACH 10 October 2008: Dear Judy, I have for you good news for the Jewish New Year My name is Shlomo Manoach, I am living in Israel. My father name was Joshua Manoach, he was born in Babiak, Poland. His grand mother was Malka Miriam Buks, the unknown daughter of Shima Aaron Buks, in your Family Tree: Shima-Aaron Buks (d. date unknown)Shima-Aaron Buks (son of Unknown Male Buks and Unknown Female) was born in Germany, and died date unknown in Babiak, Poland. Children of Shima-Aaron Buks are: +David Buks, d. date unknown. Unknown Buks, d. date unknown. Malka Miriam Buks Naftali Buks, d. date unknown. Avrum Ruven Buks, d. date unknown. Samuel Buks, d. date unknown. Malka Miriam was married to Ephraim Shmaria Rueh, they were grand parents of my father. My father was a pioneer and immigrated to The Land of Israel in 1912, in the second migration. We have in Israel a big family, with Manoach cousins in New York and Boston. Recently my son Yoav built a very sophisticated Family Tree, based on My Heritage program, I will send you this tree within a few days. I wanted to have your permission, to use some photos out of your work. Please confirm you received this mail, so we will continue our communication. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Happy New Year and Happy Sukkoth Regards Shlomo Manoach

EMAIL FROM ROBERTA BUKS TO YOAV MANOACH: 11JUL2014: Good to hear from you.  Shimon (Samuel) Books (Buks) was my father's father.  I know that Judy always lists him as Shima, but there is no doubt that his Jewish name was Shimon.  Immigration officials changed the surname to one that had the same sound (Books) when they landed in Boston.  Such a nice man.  My grandmother was a more difficult person, but my grandfather was a delight.  He came from Pschaich (Przdecki) in Poland, not too far from Klodawa, and emigrated to the US on the Susquehana with some Hershbergs.  I sent you a copy of the ship manifest from my grandfather and father (Isaak Leyb) 's trip to the US.  His wife Gitel was also from Pschaich.  She was a Hershberg, and related to many of the people in Klodawa.  Shimon and Gitel had five children, Mae, Lenny (my father), Charlotte, Francis and Benny.  Benny's wife is still alive, living in Florida, although I don't think she took much interest in her husband's family history.  Shimon owned land in or around Pschaich and apparently raised beef.  I have the address somewhere.  When he came to the US, within a year or two of 1921, my father was five years old.  They settled in Malden, Massachusetts where my grandfather and grandmother became kosher butchers.  They are both buried in or near Malden.  A cousin with the surname Buks came to the US much later and married my Aunt Mae.  The marriage didn't last all that long, though.  Where do you live?  What is your first language?  Yiddish?  Hebrew?  English?  If you live in Israel, Mae's son Harris is there.  Harris and I are about the same age and were close as children since we grew up in the same two story house in Malden, Harris upstairs and us, downstairs.  You might want to get in touch with him, too.  As usually happens in families, we probably remember different things.  I have his address somewhere, although I usually write to him by email or talk on the telephone.  His son Reuven writes regular articles for the Jerusalem Post.  You may have come across them.  Reuven was a senior officer in the Israeli Defense Force, but retired about five years ago.  Harris/Zvi went to Israel with his wife Terry, also from Malden, where they changed their names to Zvi and Tova Ben Shalom - but his mother was Mae Books Werksman and his father was Stanley Werksman.  Tell me more about your family history, please.  More later.  Regards, Roberta [Buks].

EMAIL YOAV MANOACH 12JUL2014 TO ROBERTA BUKS: Dear Roberta, My name is Yoav Manoach and I am the son of Shlomo Manoach CC'd, who was born in 1942 in Degania A' (Aleph), a Kibbutz by the Kinneret lake (the Sea of Galilee), 6 miles south of Tiberias, where the Jordan river leaves the Kinneret lake on its way to the Dead Sea. I was born in 1969 in the same place. My father still lives there and I've left to Tel-Aviv. We both speak Hebrew and English. My father's father, Yehshua Manoach was born in 1982 in Babiak, as Shaje Ruh. He immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1912 and Hebraized his surname to Manoach (Ruh in German and Manoach in Hebrew both mean rest). My grandfather's grandmother name was Malka Miriam Rue (nee Buks), daughter of Fajga and Szimon Aron Buks. One of her brothers was Avram Ruven Buks. I guess that you know from Judy's wonderful Family Tree at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/m/u/r/Judith-Muratore-MA/index.html, that he is the father of Riwka Buks whose sister in law, Mindel Pzredecki, is Gitel, your grandmother's, mother.A bit complicated? To make it easier, I sent you an invitation to the site I've started on MyHeritage.com where you can view our family tree. Many names in this tree are there thanks to Judy's research.I believe that your grandfather, whose full name was Szimon Aron [BUKS] identical to my grandfather's grandmother's father's name as well as to 3 others Buks on our family tree is somehow related to the Buks' family also directly and not only thorough is marriage to Gitel, but in order to prove it, I'd be more than happy if you could provide me with as many details as you have on your father's ancestors. Please let me know if you don't receive the invitation to MyHeritage or if you encountered any challenge in browsing it – it should be very friendly. Please feel free to inform me on any data need to correct/add/delete, etc. If you could let me know of dates (births, marriage, deaths) related to the persons you are familiar with, it would be highly appreciated as well.As for Reuven Ben Shalom, I know him from the military service, we share some mutual friends – it's such a small world. Judy – thank you very much for connecting between Roberta and us, and on your outstanding research which has been serving us so much.Keep in touch and have a great weekend. Yoav.

EMAIL FROM ELIEZER BUKS GRANDSON OF YOCHAVET RACHEL PRZEDECKI BUKS, 14MAR2015 : The information that I have was given to me by Moshe Wieroshevski, who was born in 1912. It begins with Shimeon-Aaron Buks who lived in Babiak. He had at least 5 children, one of them Avrum-Ruven Buks who married Yochavet Rachel [nee ?]. They had at least 3 children: Chaim-David, Nehama and Rivka. Rivka married Mordchai Przedecki and they had children: Sender, Michael, David, Aron, Yochavet-Rachel. The rest is known to you [Judy Muratore's g-grandfather's family]. Another brother [of Rivka?] David, had at least 4 children: Sara-Bajla, Esther, Zalman, and Eliezer-Avrum (my grandfather) who married Yochavet-Rachel Przedecki, sister of Sender, etc., who were grandchildren of Avrum-Ruven and Yochavet-Rachel Buks, brother of David Buks (my great-grandfather). This is how my father, Michael-Aba and Menashe [Judy Muratore's grandfather] are related.

My grandparents Eliezer-Avrum and Yochevet Rachel Buks lives in Slesin, Poland. They had 8 children named: Chana-Gitel, [Moshe Weiroshevski's mother], Dvorah, Gnendel, Miriam, Chaim-David, Shimeon-Aaron, Michael-Aba. and Ruven-Yitzkah.Yochavet Rachel "died in a fire", and after some time Eliezer-Avrum married another woman, and they had another son Schmuel-Jona, whom my father loved very much. As you know, most of them and their families were murdered by the Nazi's, all except my father who came to Palestine in 1926 (when he was 21-22 years old my uncle Ruben-Yitzhak who had a very good "smelling"(?) and escaped with his wife Chaya and two chilren Eliezer and Mrdchai to Russia and Siberia before the Germans arrived in Lodz where they lived. The family arrived here [Israel] after a very hard time in Siberia.[see photo above "Klodawa gathering at Ramat Gan, Israel of Eliezer and Mordchai Buks].

My father did not talk much about his family and his life in Slesin. What I know is they had a very hard life after his mother died, and that they stopped being orthodox right after he left home. My mother, Bat Sheva, was born in Palestine, was well as her mother and grandparents.
